A Continuation of New Arrivals - Rabbits!

~ Pictures ~ This is what the pen and the cages looked like about a week ago. We are putting a roof up to keep the rabbits dry and cool. When it's finished, I'll post a picture of it as well :).                                                                            Abraham Pete ( because we need another picture hehe)   Sarah Hagar  Keturah

New Arrivals

Hello Folks!                                                       Wow...its been a busy 3 weeks...      So, starting with the oldest information...the boss of the Goshen Block Company came back with another man, another " fundi" ( Swahili for any kind of person that can build, construct, or fix objects) and they gave me a better price. $15,255 is much better than $17,500.   They said it would be cheaper to just create lines between the blocks as a design instead of plastering. I thought that was a very good idea and personally know that it will look really nice.      Because $15,000 is a LOT of money, I will be focusing on starting the library in the Kisongo building (I forgot to tell you but they said " yes"!) and will build the wall as soon as possible. I haven't received anymore donations for bric

Blocks, Rabbits and a Whole Lot of Other Stuff

Hi, All You Happy People    For those that are my age and older...you remember Droopy Dog off cartoon network, right? I always thought his dry humor was funny.         It the last two weeks, I have received two donations that come to a total of 208 blocks!                              Help me fill this box up with bricks! With each new donation, I'll do the blocks in a different color and put your name on them! I was told a round figure concerning how much each block was going to cost, and I'm happy to report that they only cost .95 instead of $1.50. The 1,040 ft. wall is going to take an estimated 8,400 blocks. At .95 each, that's $7,980. A lot more than I thought, but I know that if it's the Lord's will, the money will be provided. If you are interested, you might consider not spending that extra .95 when you're out and about each day for a month and voila...30 blocks for just $28!   I was floored when I changed the 27,

My Next Step

Howdy!      It has been a looooong Sunday and thankfully, it's almost over. I had set my alarm clock, but when it rang at 6am, I thought " Just a few more minutes" and fell back asleep. So, my day didn't start early. It definitely made for a more hectic morning; I swapped breakfast for sleep.      My topic today in the children's class was " Peter's Sermon and Pentecost ". Surprisingly, that was what Dad's sermon was on. I thought it was great that the children got to hear it one more time!      Yesterday, Mr. Stafford and I drove down to the area where the Parker Memorial Library will be built and talked about the plans. The land that the library will be built on is the empty right bottom corner.    So, you must be wondering, what is my next step?                              PUT IT IN CEMENT!             The next step is to build a concrete block wall (very importa

Plans and Exciting News!

Hello!           Well, I know that it's been a while since I've written, but I was waiting for answers and now I finally have some!       There have many ideas tossed around, but I came to the conclusion that I should not rent, but build a place for the library instead. This would provide a permanent place that would eventually pay for itself. After contacting "the powers that be" at Bear Valley ( the congregation that oversees the Tz2000 mission work), I was just given permission to build on land behind the preaching school here in Kisongo. I am so blessed that they believe in this work! So...what am I going to build? I came in contact with something called "cob" a few years ago. It is a mixture of straw, sand, clay (Kisongo has a high clay content in the dirt), and stone. Here is a picture. The library will look similar.      Isn't it just lovely? This house has thr

An Observation

An Observation      Recently, Lindsey was hired by World Bible School to hand out lessons and see that they are graded. She thought that stopping by the Arusha Library she might be able to find a few English speaking people with whom she could conduct a bible study. The library is about 30 minutes from our house and in the middle of town.      You can not see it, but it has a downstairs area where the children's section is located. (This picture was not taken by me)       Lindsey asked that I accompany her and I agreed. For those of you who do not have a twin, you have missed out on several things in life: 1 . Someone in your own family that's your exact age.   2 . A partner in life, someone you can ask " How do you see...*name a situation   or happening*...?" and get their opinion and outlook. 3 . Someone whose nearly always (as in the paragraph above) is willing to accompany you

Home Sweet Home :)

It truly is great to be home. The trip home was a little longer, more rushed and chaotic then usual, but that only made walking through those doors even sweeter. And it's mainly the little things, like having a place where my clothes belong, a place to relax after being out and about, and the security and peace of knowing I'm not leaving anytime soon. Besides Africa, I've never lived anywhere for more than three years. We have lived in this house ( I posted a picture for those of you who might curious as to what our house looks like) for a total of five years, though not five consecutive years.         I have also enjoyed getting back in the kitchen and cooking from scratch. I noticed how in the States it would take only half the time it takes here to prepare a meal. But I love cooking here so much more! So, again, to give you look into my life, this is my somewhat small but wonderful kitchen.    Until the library is set up, this is wh

What an Experience!

Wow, PTP has been really nice.  A lot of old faces and some new. To think, I may not know everyone here but they're all a part of the church of Christ. It's that wonderful bond that Christ has given us! And because we are all apart of the Church ( and I would even say, among the strong and faithful), the lessons are on a deeper level. Since we all know the stories ( accounts), we can dive into the Word- comparing this and applying that.          After several weeks of gathering and putting it together ( I had the hardest time getting the green lettering on the black project board to stay on) I set up my booth in the vending area. I was quite surprised to see so many others doing exactly what I'm doing. But I should have thought, " 3,000 people are coming, tons of other people will be using this great opportunity."                So far, in the last 5 days, the library has recieved $251, making the total of what has be
Well folks, it's been a while since I've written and for that I apologize. I just didn't feel like I had much to say in the progress of the library ( or my life for that matter- we traveled here, we traveled there), but now I clearly have enough. :) Since GBN I have tried to contact several people in  many congregations, attempting to get either one-time funds or monthly support.  I've gotten some  no's and have yet to receive any donations. But I've been told that you have to get a certain number of "no's" before you can get any "yes's".  I just spent the last  week in Montgomery. Dad was recording a class that he's teaching at Faulkner ( he's not going to be able to be there for all the semester). Me and David tagged along, hoping to get a few things done. Todd had agreed to give me some driving lessons and Robert Waggoner had told me to stop by when I got the chance and go through some books of his to see if I w
Hello again, I have some exciting news! The Logan Martin Church of Church has decided to oversee Parker Memorial Library and collect the funds. I'm so thrilled...one big step closer. Now, just to set up two bank accounts. Mark McWhorter has been an amazing help and continues to be so. He has a love for books and a desire to see others learn. I would be no where near where I am in accomplishing this library if not for him. God has blessed this effort! With the help of his daughter Katie (who works at a bank), he has agreed to set up the bank account. In an effort to improve the presentation, GBN is allowing me to record my voice in their studio. By putting audio on my presentation, it will be more personal and interesting. So, when that is accomplished, I will put the presentation on this blog.                                                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The last two weeks I have spent at camp. One week at Backwoods Christian Camp and the other at Indian Cr
Hi... This blog is meant to serve two purposes. A place for me to write and talk about my life in Africa and a place where those that support the Parker Memorial Library can read about how the library is progressing. I hope that in both purposes, the read is informative and enjoyable! I will be sure to post pictures and write at least once a week.   Our plane ride to the States went very well. It was great to be able to celebrate with Todd and Lauren on their wedding day. My grandparent's farm was a great place to have it (minus the cow patties :)). I think my favorite part was helping direct the wedding.   The library is on it's way to being established! This weekend I have been invited to show my presentation (which I will put on here in good time) to the Logan Martin congregation (in Pell City, AL) after services. There are still many things to do, but with God's help, all will be accomplished. Until all have Heard,                                       Abigai
